These words come from Sandra Paterson, our Diversity and Inclusion Champion, who has been at the heart of driving these initiatives:
“One of the standout moments for me was completing the Unconscious Bias in the Workplace course. It was eye-opening — not just learning about bias, but realizing how even small, everyday actions can make a big difference in helping people feel seen and valued.
And then there was Wear It Purple Day — what a vibe! Our team didn’t just wear purple, we got together and had some honest, heartfelt chats about what diversity and inclusion mean to each of us. It was powerful, and honestly, a bit emotional in the best way. It reminded me how important it is to create space for real conversations.
We’ve also been working hard behind the scenes — with a dedicated working group and staff training focused on LGBTQIA+ inclusion, Indigenous and Cultural awareness, and Menopause Awareness. It’s been amazing to see people leaning in, learning, and growing together. These initiatives are helping us build a workplace that’s not just diverse, but truly inclusive.
In my role, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people from all walks of life — helping them feel connected, respected, and welcomed. Whether it’s through inclusive onboarding or just being that friendly voice on the other end of the line, I’ve seen how inclusion brings us closer and makes our team stronger.
We’ve come a long way, and I’m proud to be part of it. But there’s always more we can do — more stories to hear, more barriers to break, and more ways to make sure everyone feels like they truly belong. Thanks for listening — and let’s keep building that inclusive future, together!”
